Application of utilizing MSK ultrasound technologies for advanced injections.

Advanced Musculoskeletal ultrasound

Advanced MSK Ultrasound

The advancements in ultrasound technologies allow for intervention pain management injections to be more precise than traditional blind injection techniques. Empire Medical Training’s Advance Musculoskeletal U.S. Guided Injection workshop expands upon the introductory course and 3-Day Pain Management Course in the application of utilizing MSK ultrasound technologies for advanced injections.

The Advanced Interventional Pain sonography course is very specific as to the indications for treatment resulting from sub-acute and chronic pain conditions and the ability to utilize ultrasound for image guidance to perform various nerve blocks and anesthesia options.

The program is designed for Practitioners who wish to be able to expand their pain management options and learn the “pearls” associated with the injection but also the indications for treatment, pertinent anatomy, needle placement, and patient positioning for injections.

Special to the course are detailed protocols for pre-injection, injection techniques, innervation as well as utilizing blind injection techniques when applicable.  The evidence-based course is complete and utilizes videos of many of the procedures as well as “standard of care” considerations in diagnosing different pain conditions and the various therapeutic options available to the physician.

Empire Medical Training’s faculty instructor for the Empire Advanced Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Guided Injection Therapies course is David Rosenbloom, MD who is the Director of Pain at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY and has over (17) years of experience in Interventional Pain Management Procedures.

Upon successful completion of the Advanced Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Guided Injections Training all participants should be able to:

  1. Identify Local Anesthetic (LA) toxicity: acute and chronic management (Progressions & Symptoms)
  2. Review various pharmacological solutions used for the various pain procedures including mechanism of action, selection, and side-effects.
  3. Perform various functional tests to form initial diagnosis and utilizing ultrasound for further diagnosis of pain presentations by patients.
  4. Describe various sub-acute and chronic pain conditions affecting patients who would benefit from Interventional Pain procedures.
  5. Review all protocols for the Advanced Interventional Pain Procedures.
  6. Review various nerve blocks and interventions to relieve pain in an array of body part areas, medical conditions and pre-existing conditions.
  7. Utilize image guidance (Ultrasound) to perform Interventional Pain Management Procedures.
  8. Identify various contraindications for interventional pain therapies and be able to explain expected outcomes for patients.
  9. Review current guidelines and “standard of care” considerations for the various pain conditions and treatment therapies outlined including malpractice insurance, patient documentation, and possible
  10. Identify the pertinent anatomy and characteristics associated with various pain conditions with ultrasound guidance and formulate a treatment plan.
  11. Review the billing and coding options for the use of image guidance for the various pain procedures.

Advanced MusculoSkeletal Ultrasound - Agenda

9:00am–9:45amInstructor Introduction, Review the advantages of using sonography (ultrasound) for various interventional pain procedures relating to nerve blocks, ligaments, and tendons. Review other medical indications of use including diagnostic scanning and the pharmacologic agents used for various pain injection therapies.
9:45am-10:30amReview medical indications for treatment, injection techniques, and protocols for Suprascapular Nerve Blocks, Trigger Finger Injection, and hip injections using an anterior approach for the injections. Introduction to lower extremity injections for Achilles Tendon injections and Plantar Fasciitis and related medical conditions associated with both.
10:45am-12:00pmContinuation of the review of medical indications for treatment, injection techniques, and protocols for Achilles Tendon, Biceps Tendon, Saphenous Nerve Block, and Intercostal Nerve Block including neurolysis options for treatment. Review evidence-based studies associated with injections and alternative treatment options if applicable. Questions and Answers
