FDA Approved Botulinum-A Products

Cosmetic Botulin Toxin-A products are a scheduled drug and must be acquired by prescription and is controlled. Who may acquire and administer the scheduled drug is dependent upon the DEA but also state regulations that precede DEA regulations.

FDA-APPROVED BOTULINUM-A PRODUCTS PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS

Dysport®, Botox®, and Xeomin® have both cosmetic and medical packaged products and are available in different packaging and size volumes. Jeuveau was recently approved in March, 2019 and is the latest BTX-A to offer cosmetic FDA approvals and aesthetic applications. The product characteristics of Jeuveau® is similar to Allergan’s Cosmetic Botox® with similar manufacturing processes and excipients within the formulation. All Botulinum Toxin-A products need to be refrigerated or frozen prior to re-constitution other than Merz Aesthetics, Xeomin® which is stored and is stable at room temperature.

There is no difference between the Botulinum Toxin-A products concerning effectiveness or duration, any reference to how effective or how long the treatment lasts is anecdotal only. Price Point: There is variability in the cost of the different products – what will patients pay?

Product Line:  The larger companies offer additional products (i.e. dermal fillers, sclerosants, medical devices, etc.)
