Empire's Advanced Ultrasound Procedures Level II for dentists builds on foundational ultrasound skills with advanced scanning and guided procedures particularly relevant to complex TMJ and orofacial conditions. Level II techniques include advanced TMJ dynamic assessment, complex guided injection approaches, and the refined sonographic skills needed to evaluate and treat conditions that standard imaging cannot fully characterize. Your TMJ anatomy expertise positions you to rapidly master these advanced techniques.
Develop expert-level TMJ ultrasound assessment including disc dynamics during jaw motion, capsular changes, and synovial pathology — diagnostic capabilities beyond standard TMJ evaluation.
Evaluate TMJ and orofacial structures during jaw movement — revealing disc displacement, subluxation, and dynamic pathology that static imaging alone cannot detect. Advanced real-time diagnostic capability.
Perform advanced ultrasound-guided injections for complex TMJ conditions and orofacial pain — precision that standard guided techniques cannot achieve for challenging anatomical targets.
Advanced ultrasound capability for TMJ diagnosis and guided treatment positions your practice as a regional TMJ center of excellence — attracting complex referrals from dentists and physicians.
Course Highlights
As a dentist advancing to Level II ultrasound, you gain expert-level TMJ imaging and guided intervention capability. These highlights demonstrate how advanced sonographic skills transform your orofacial diagnostic and treatment practice.
Curriculum Highlights
Master essential techniques and protocols through our comprehensive, CME-accredited curriculum designed for dentists (dds/dmd).
Designed for Dentists
Dentists are uniquely positioned to enter the aesthetics market due to their unparalleled knowledge of facial anatomy, expertise in injection techniques, and established patient relationships focused on facial appearance. Adding aesthetic services to a dental practice creates significant new revenue streams, differentiates the practice from competitors, and meets growing patient demand for comprehensive facial enhancement services from a single trusted provider.
Dentists possess exceptional expertise in facial anatomy, injection technique, and patient management — skills that translate directly to aesthetic medicine and pain management procedures. In most states, dentists are authorized to perform injectable aesthetic treatments including botulinum toxin and dermal fillers within the head and neck region. Many states have expanded dental scope to include broader aesthetic and pain management procedures. Empire's training helps dentists leverage their existing anatomical expertise to add high-revenue services to their practices.
Dentists receive CME/CE accredited certification upon completion. Credits are recognized by state dental boards for continuing education and license renewal requirements.

The Advanced Ultrasound Procedures Level II is designed for practitioners who have completed foundational ultrasound-guided pain management training (such as Empire's Ultrasound-Guided Pain Management course or equivalent) and have clinical experience performing basic ultrasound-guided injections. You should be comfortable with probe handling, image optimization, and standard in-plane needle guidance before enrolling in this advanced program.
Level II ultrasound skills enable dynamic assessment — evaluating TMJ disc movement, capsular function, and joint mechanics during jaw opening, closing, and lateral excursion. This real-time evaluation reveals disc displacement patterns, subluxation, and dynamic pathology that static imaging (including MRI) may miss. Advanced TMJ ultrasound provides diagnostic detail that significantly improves treatment planning accuracy.
Advanced ultrasound-guided procedures relevant to dentists include complex TMJ intra-articular injections with precise capsular targeting, periarticular guided injections for capsulitis, and potentially ultrasound-guided regional nerve blocks for orofacial conditions. The improved precision of Level II guidance ensures medication reaches the exact intended target in complex TMJ anatomy.
Level II requires completion of foundational ultrasound-guided pain management training and clinical experience with basic ultrasound-guided procedures. You should be comfortable with probe handling, image optimization, and standard guided needle placement. Empire's Level I Ultrasound-Guided Pain Management course or equivalent provides the appropriate prerequisite foundation.
In most states, dentists are authorized to administer botulinum toxin and dermal filler injections within the head, neck, and associated structures. Some states define this scope broadly to include cosmetic applications, while others limit dental injectable use to therapeutic and functional purposes. Empire recommends confirming your state dental board's specific guidelines. Our training provides the clinical certification recognized by dental boards nationwide.
Dentists have superior knowledge of facial anatomy, nerve pathways, and injection techniques compared to most other healthcare professionals entering aesthetics. Your daily experience with local anesthesia, precise needle placement, and patient management in the facial region gives you a significant head start. Empire's course builds on these existing competencies to add aesthetic-specific protocols, product knowledge, and treatment planning skills.
Dental practices that add aesthetic injectable services typically generate $100K-$300K+ in additional annual revenue, often from their existing patient base. Botox and filler treatments have high profit margins, create recurring revenue through maintenance appointments, and attract new patients who become dental patients as well. The crossover appeal is significant — patients who trust you with their smile naturally trust you with their facial aesthetics.
