Viscosupplementation

During the training we will review the (2) most popular viscosupplements available – Synvisc™ and Hyalgan™. As part of the course study on joint injections you will receive all information needed to perform these simple but rewarding procedures for your patients. The choice for either of these (2) types of hyaluronic acid is based upon reimbursement by insurances or preference.

Viscosupplementation can provide long-term relief (up to 6 months) of pain and improved function and mobility for patients with Osteoarthritis of the knee or shoulder. Poor surgical candidates for knee replacement or other types of treatments respond well to viscosupplements injected in the joint where they have failed other conservative approaches to treatment (i.e. analgesics, physical therapy). Many physicians use this type of therapy to defer future knee replacements for patients and allow them to continue their active lifestyle. Viscosupplementation does not correct the condition of Osteoarthritis of the knee but allows for a natural lubrication to the joint and alleviate pain associated with this condition.

Included with your training, you will receive all information needed to perform these simple but rewarding procedures for your patients including anatomical charts for placement. During the “hands-on” portion of the program you will have the opportunity to practice these joint injections on a cadaver and/or anatomical model.
