The Peptide Formulary
Every agent studied across the certification curriculum, in one reference: 128 named agents, grouped by the 10 clinical modules, each with the mechanism it is studied for and its current regulatory status. Published openly, because a clinician deserves to see the scope of a program before enrolling in it.
Every agent carries its regulatory status
Most peptide education lists agents. This formulary tags each one, because the regulatory position of a peptide is now a clinical fact a prescriber has to know — and it is the part that moves. The tags below describe regulatory posture only. They are not safety ratings, they are not efficacy ratings, and none of them is an endorsement.
-
FDA-approved drug
Approved as a specific branded product for specific indications. Approval attaches to the branded product, not to a compounded version of the same molecule.
16 agents -
PCAC recommended — FDA determination pending
The FDA’s Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee voted in July 2026 to recommend the substance for the 503A bulks list. Advisory only; the FDA determination is pending and nothing has been added.
4 agents -
Removed from Category 2 (2026) — not an approval
One of the twelve peptides FDA removed from Category 2 on April 15, 2026. Removal drops the significant-safety-risk designation. It is not an approval and does not place the substance on the 503A bulks list.
8 agents -
Restricted from routine 503A compounding
Remains restricted from routine 503A compounding.
2 agents -
Investigational / research setting
No US compounding pathway. Encountered in trials, in the literature, or in non-US markets.
54 agents -
Not a peptide — adjunctive compound taught in protocol context
Not a peptide therapeutic. Taught because clinicians combine it with peptide protocols. This tag describes chemical class, not regulatory standing — several agents in this group are unapproved investigational or supplement-channel compounds. Check the mechanism note on each row and verify status independently.
15 agents -
Status varies by state and pharmacy — verify before prescribing
The default. Status is unsettled, agent-specific, or differs by jurisdiction, formulation or supply channel. This tag may cover agents that currently carry an FDA Category 2 designation (significant safety risks, not eligible for routine 503A compounding) — it is not a signal that an agent is available to compound. Verify every agent against the current FDA lists before prescribing.
29 agents
The standing caveat. Regulatory status reviewed: July 2026. Regulatory status changes, and it changed twice between 2023 and 2026. Every tag on this page reflects that review date and must be verified against current FDA action, your state board, and your compounding pharmacy before you prescribe. No compounded peptide is an FDA-approved drug, and an FDA approval that attaches to a branded product does not transfer to a compounded preparation of the same molecule. Teaching clinicians to make that distinction — and to keep making it as the rules move — is a graded competency in Module 2 of the curriculum.
- Footnote A. BPC-157, KPV, TB-500 / thymosin beta-4 and MOTS-c appear with the PCAC tag; all four were also among the twelve removed from Category 2 in April 2026. Neither event is an approval.
- Footnote B. Topical cosmetic peptides are regulated as cosmetic ingredients rather than as drugs; they carry the verify-before-prescribing default because status turns on the claim made and the formulation supplied. The same split applies to GHK-Cu: the 2026 Category 2 removal covers the injectable form only.
- Footnote D. Exosome, PRP and PDRN preparations are biologic products, not peptides. No exosome product is FDA-approved for any indication, and FDA has issued public safety notifications about unapproved exosome products; they appear here because the curriculum appraises how they are combined with peptide protocols and what their regulatory posture actually is.
- Footnote C. Glutathione and L-carnosine are, biochemically, peptides. Glutathione is tagged as an adjunctive compound per Empire’s formulary convention, which classifies supplement-channel redox agents alongside the other non-peptide adjuncts clinicians combine with protocols.
128 agents across 10 clinical modules
Each agent is listed once, under the module that carries its primary teaching. Agents studied in more than one module show their cross-references, and the filter finds them from any of their modules. Where Empire already publishes a free science guide on an agent, the name links to it.
Modules 1, 2 and 10 borrow rather than own: Foundations teaches a set of these agents as pharmacology exemplars, Regulatory teaches a set as compounding and bulks-list case studies, and Clinical Practice returns to a core set in safety and case work. Filtering by any of the three surfaces those agents where they are listed.

Agents are taught as case material: mechanism, evidence tier, patient selection, monitoring and regulatory status. Listing an agent is not a recommendation to prescribe it, and several are taught specifically so a clinician can explain why they would decline. Free science guides on individual agents live in the Peptide Therapy Resource Center.
The formulary is coursework, not a catalog
Enrolled clinicians work the formulary agent by agent inside the module that teaches it — and Empire will review the formulary as FDA determinations are issued, and the curriculum teaches the monitoring routine that lets a practice do the same the month after certification.
Level I — Foundations and regulatory agents
The Essentials Certificate works the agents taught in Modules 1 and 2, where the skill being built is evidence appraisal and regulatory literacy rather than protocol design.
Levels II and III — the full formulary
All ten modules and all 128 agents, carried into graded case discussions where an agent has to be selected, justified, monitored and, when the evidence does not support it, declined.
Maintained against FDA action
Empire will review status tags against FDA determinations, PCAC agendas and state board activity, and the curriculum teaches the monitoring routine that lets a practice do the same on its own.
